Abstract : Cancer Mortality rates for Canadians and First Nations (on reserve) in 1999 were compared in this chart. The chart illustrated that for males, prostate cancer accounted for 26.7 deaths per 100,000 population for Canadians, and 33.0 for First Nations. Colorectal rates were almost identical, with Canada reporting 24.1 and First Nations 24.0. The Canadian rate of 70.3 for lung cancer exceeds the 60.6 reported for First Nations.
For females, rates were very close between the two populations, with breast cancer for Canadians being 25.2 deaths per 100,000 population, and 23.3 for First Nations. Colorectal was 15.2 for Canada and 16.8 for First Nations. Lung cancer was 34.8 for Canada and 33.4 for First Nations.
