Résumé :

"Final technical report to the National Health Research Development Program (NHRDP)".
NHRDP project no 6609-1963-55

One of the most important outcomes of the project was development of a taxonomy of the costs of informal elder care. An informal caregiving system is suggested that, according to the literature reviewed, comprises five stakeholder groups : informal elder care recipients ; informal elder care providers ; families of informal elder care providers; employers of informal elder care providers;and the public. Costs experienced by these stakeholders were categorized broadly as economic and non-economic. Subcategories of economic costs include out-of-pocet expenditures, foregone employment opportunities, and unpaid labour. Subcategories of non-economic costs include declines in emotional, physical and social well-being. The relative importance of each of these varies across stakeholders so that each stakeholder group experiences a unique set of costs.
